By Road from Dar-es-Salaam:

There are two routes from Dar es Salaam to Mpingo Lodge Selous by road; one is via Kisarawe town and Kazimzumbwi forest, and the other one is by the main Southern Highway (B2) via Kibiti town. The two routes are described below.

Directions Via Kibiti

The drive from Dar es Salaam to Mpingo Lodge Selous is about 230 km and takes around six hours. The first 145 km is tarmac(B2 highway) while the last 85 kmfrom Kibiti to camp is on well maintained gravel road. From Dar es Salaam you drive South along Kilwa Road (B2) up to Kibiti, where you turn right immediately after the Total Petrol Station. You then drive on the gravel road for about 20 km until the crossroads at Mkongo, where you turn right towards Mloka. You will start finding Mpingo Lodge Selous signposts at this crossroads. Drive for about 65 km to the outskirts of Mibuyu Saba village then turn left at the Mpingo Lodge Selous signpost at Mibuyu Saba. The lodge is about one 1 km from the junction. The Lodge is about 16.5 km from the Mtemere gate into the Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve).

Directions Via Kisarawe

This route takes you from the Dar es Salaam CBD through the Julius Nyerere International Airport (JKNI), westwards to Pugu Hills, the Kazimzumbwi forest reserve, Kisarawe town and onwards travelling South West to Mloka and Mpingo Lodge Selous. It takes about 4 hours from JNIA, (weather permitting) and allows visitors to experience the picturesque views from Pugu,  Kisarawe hills, the Kazimzumbwi forest reserve and several rural villages

Directions By Bus:

If you are seeking a more immersive experience, several local buses ply between Dar es Salaam and Mloka daily, the earliest leaving Dar es Salaam (Temeke Sudani area) at around 6.30 am each morning and arriving at Mibuyu Saba around 2 pm.

Two buses also leave (6am and 1pm) for Mloka and Mibuyu Saba via the Kisarawe route from the Kigogo Mwisho bus stop everyday.

We can collect you from Mibuyu Saba if you let us know in advance.

Directions From Morogoro:

It is also possible to reach us by road from Morogoro, via Kisaki and Matambwe (about 6 hours drive on isolated gravel road mostly through the National Park).

By Air:

Touchdown to Adventure!

Several charter plane companies operate flights from Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar to the Mtemere airstrip at the gate the Mtemere gate of the Nyerere National Park. Flights can be booked online. Flights can also be booked from other areas in Tanzania. Mpingo Lodge can organize airport transfers if needed.
